As you know, the Proteus release is just around the corner.
Most of the changes are for the better, but some are still controversial. I don't think anyone is going to be upset about bug fixes, or reintroducing some of the old flavor back into the names of various modules... and since the new environmental effects in the asteroid belts don't appear to be causing any frame rate loss I'd rate that one firmly on the plus side. Likewise the new Exequror hull and accompanying warp animation are all to the good (symmetry vs. asymmetry arguments notwithstanding).
However, Proteus will see the introduction of a previously unheard of capability for ships to have... that being the new bonus that combat recons have to simply be undetectable on directional scan.
This has caused a great deal of debate both pro and con, as it is very nearly as powerful as the cloaking ability of it's force recon brethren while retaining a higher degree of combat capability. The very fact that this capability is possible has people worried that it might eventually find its way into the special abilities of other types of vessels. Wormhole residents in particular are worried that this will have a drastic effect on their operations.
Another minor point of concern is that the new mining anomalies that will start spawning in starter systems will either make things a bit too easy for new players, or that a way will be found to exploit them.
I have my own opinion on these subjects, and if you are interesting in learning what they are I've gone over the high points of the Proteus release in a high def. video you can find here: PROTEUS, CHANGES INBOUND
However, I want to know what the EVE community thinks.
Will directional scan immunity unravel the fabric of the PVE lifestyle in EVE, or will wormholes residents be forced to relocate? Just how exploitable do you think this new capability is?
Does the Exequror redesign still retain that necessary organic Gallante style? Did you notice it is still asymmetrical?
If (or perhaps when) tessellation is incorporated into EVE, do you think all the asteroid fragments soon to be filling our belts will be even more fantastic, or simply a hazard to navigation.
Will having mining anomalies spawn in starter systems bend your soul, break your spine, and keep the allies from winning the war?
In a couple of days Proteus will be a reality in EVE, might as well get it off your chest now.

Scipio Artelius wrote:While i like your thread Ranger, I have a feeling this one will be locked.
All the discussion for and against d-scan immunity is in the Features & Ideas Discussion Thread on the Recon Rebalance.
For me, it's no more than a gimic and not game changing, but there are a lot of different views of the community discussed elsewhere and I can appreciate that it's a hot topic.
Exeq/Navy Exeq/Oneiros look fine to me as is and with the new design. The animations are kind of cool.
Asteroid Belts: flavour for others and not a problem for me personally. I don't spend time in asteroid belts.
Rookie mining anomolies: I expect it will see an influx of less than new players to mine their little hearts out. This may create issues because ganking in starter systems is something that requires some caution, but I hope if non-new players head there to mine, they are ganked repeatedly. Heya Scipio.
Thats why this thread is dedicated to discussing more than just the recon changes, or whether or not they should be implemented.
This thread is about Proteus as a whole, and what the overall implications will be (for good or ill) for the player base.
"The avalanche has started, it's too late for the pebbles to vote", however we can still kick around what our options will be before that avalanche arrives.

Serene Repose wrote:OP - Too easy for new players? Give me a break. You're burying your gripe about the recon change amid a ton of useless verbiage. Not even a stealth recon gripe thread.
I think you have confused me with someone who doesn't like the recon changes.
All I have done here is to point out some of the concerns players have been debating since the content for the Proteus release was announced... in as neutral a way as possible. I put my opinions in the video, not in this thread.
I think you skimmed this one a little too quickly this time Serene. Judging from your post we probably see eye to eye on most of what's about to arrive in Proteus.

For those of you who may watch the linked video, I'd like to apologize for an error.
The Naga animation was slipped in with the Rhea update, but they broke the sensor dish animation when they did so. I had missed this fact and thought the hull animation was releasing in Proteus, but they were simply repairing the dish animation.
Still, since I missed it in my last update I'm leaving it in (it's a great animation).
I've put a correction in the video.
Sorry about that.

What I mean is this: I live in a C4 and rat, and whatnot. Couldn't I just deploy a single combat probe, set it to max, clear all the known spaceship sigs, then just spam that every few seconds as I rat? In theory I should get a hit on a new ship entering even if its d-scan immune and should eb able to bounce.
Also as stated, if you are in a site, odds are you will need to be probed out (unless your in an obvious location like a mining barge in the single belt spawn) and you will see probes on d-scan.
So honestly.. how hard is it to deploy a probe and mash scan every few seconds? or oh idk, if you have a single static place an alt at your static and listen for the bong. Really being d-scan immune will just get the stupid killed.. or those not paying attention, so lets face it they would of died anyway, nothing changes. You are hitting it right on the spot. :) And it always feels good when that happens, doesn't it ... (: Why, every time I read one of your posts.. they seem so ambiguous. Not sure if it's me, or.. Solecist Project ambiguous?
Maybe, maybe not...

Judging from your post we probably see eye to eye on most of what's about to arrive in Proteus. Oh, and here I thought you were trying to say something new. My bad. No, not in the thread anyway.
What I'm doing is bringing some of the conversations that have been occurring in other sections of the forums, and focused on specific individual aspects of Proteus, into the light of day in general discussion and look at what to expect from Proteus as a whole.
Yes, the time for debating if a change should happen is over. Now it's time for the general population (who may not have been following discussions elsewhere) to kick around how they think the release as a whole will go.
I've tried to avoid getting on my personal soap box this time around. I'm not entirely sure why that seems to bother you, but your input is always welcome anyway.

I have something for this And here I thought hoodies were an mostly an American fashion crime. I feel strangely relieved.

Tinfoil seems to be in short supply, although I believe I have a supply of other metallic headgear in my hanger currently, will that do?
